HARRY Potter star EVANNA LYNCH has told how the books’ author saved her from anorexia.
The Irish actress had the deadly eating disorder for two years from 11 and wrote to JK ROWLING begging for help.
“I told her the books gave me hope, particularly Luna Lovegood,” said Evanna – who went on to play the character in the films.
“I told how I looked up to her. She wrote back and was like a counsellor.
“She told me anorexia is destructive, not creative, and the brave thing was not to succumb to it.
“I told her I’d love to be in the films and she encouraged that but said I’d need to be well to do so. In the end I think that’s why I recovered.”
A small report on Scotsman.com News has stirred the curiosity in almost every Harry Potter reader around: is J.K. Rowling working on a new book?
Reports that Rowling was spotted tapping away on her laptop in an enclosed corner at a coffee shop this week is the cause of some speculation on her latest writing activities, with fans wondering if she is working on her newest children’s book (which was to be her next project post-Harry Potter), or if she could be working on the heavily anticipated “Scottish book” as she jokingly referred to it – an encyclopedia of the Harry Potter universe that she said she may write, which would provide details that either were never included in the final drafts for the books or had to be edited out – including back stories on some of the minor but loved characters. Rowling stated that she would probably pen that tome “about ten years” after Harry Potter ended, with the proceeds going to charity.
Whatever she happens to be working on, her fans will continue to wait – maybe not so patiently – for her next project.
J K ROWLING’S autograph has become one of the most sought-after in the world and is out- selling those of superstars such as boxing legend Muhammad Ali and the late pop star Michael Jackson.
The Edinburgh-based author has made it on to a list of the world’s most valuable autographs compiled by memorabilia specialist Paul Fraser Collectibles.
Her signature is also worth more than those of Madonna, Beatles drummer Ringo Starr and artist Salvador Dali.
Investors have been urged to seek out signed copies of books by the multi-millionairess Harry Potter author as they are a more lucrative bet than stocks and shares.
The new research has shown that her signature has increased in value from £395 to £1,200 over the past ten years, a rise of 204 per cent.
Memorabilia experts predict its worth will continue to rocket in future years as copies become more rare. Read the rest of this entry »
Forbes Magazine has named J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter book series, one of the world’s 30 most inspiring women. After seeking input from ForbesWoman followers on Facebook and Twitter, a list was compiled of the “30 Utterly Inspiring Role Models”, and Rowling was chosen as one of the 30 women who “make the world a better place”. She’s in good company, with Oprah Winfrey, Angelina Jolie, Danica Patrick, Betty White, Elizabeth Glazer, Condoleezza Rice, and Hilary Clinton also making the cuts.
Forbes says of Rowling: “As a single mother, J.K. Rowling took writing stories about a young wizard in a coffee shop and built one of the top-earning literary franchises ever, inspiring movies that have grossed more than $5 billion, spin-off books, theme parks and more.”
The Harry Potter series has sold over 400 million copies worldwide, and has been translated in 65 languages.
JK Rowling:
It is hard to think of a more powerful female figure to have emerged from Scotland in the past decade than JK Rowling. In 2000, Rowling was cementing her position as the world’s most popular children’s author with her fourth Harry Potter book, which broke all literary sales records in both the US and the UK. By 2007, Forbes magazine had ranked her the 48th most powerful celebrity in the world – not just for her enormous impact on child literacy but for her philanthropic work. Her Volant Charitable Trust funds disadvantaged children and MS research. She is a vocal president of One Parent Families, and successfully campaigned for a law change in Romania concerning caged beds for orphans. Whatever she turns her hand to, Rowling has proved she is capable of effecting real change on a global scale.

J.K. Rowling has contributed to a celebrity hand display which will help raise funds for Tilly Lockey, a young girl who needs prosthetic limbs that will need replacing every year until she is 18. The pictures and casts will go on display at Newcastle’sLife centre for one day and then will be put up for auction at an event on September 5th. The exhibit is free of charge.
Sarah Lockey said: “We have all of these wonderful quirky and unique drawings and hand casts created by celebrities to help us raise funds for Tilly. These will be auctioned at a dinner in September but we wanted to share them with as many people as possible before they become part of someone’s private collection.”
